Governor Arati Claims There Were Plans To Poison Him

Kisii Governor Simba Arati claims that there were intentions to poison him due to his firm political positions.

Speaking to a crowd in Kisii on Saturday, Arati revealed that he discovered a plot to take his own life through poisoning. He claimed that the scheme was devised by older individuals within the Gusii community.

“What happened in South Mugirango is akin to what the Al-Shabaab did in Garissa University. People use guns to end others’ lives. This time round we will not allow it to happen, we will ask our people to get hold of anyone misusing a gun, even if it will cost some of us,” Arati said.

He went on: “Unfortunately, people as old as 60 years could sit and decide that the solution to my leadership in Kisii county is by poisoning me. That someone that age could suggest to have me poisoned so that they can have their way. Why don’t you want me to live and at least get to your age? Why?”

The governor justified his decision to organize the bodaboda riders in Kisii County, asserting that the initiative aims to empower them. He criticized those who objected to the action, suggesting that their opposition stemmed from a fear of a strengthened bodaboda association.

Arati cautioned that if cornered, he would act like a cat pushed to its limits, resorting to unleashing its claws in self-defense.

“If you corner a cat in a box and try to attack it, definitely it will defend itself and turn against you with its craws. I will be like that cat if this does not stop,” Arati added.

Recently, there has been tension between the governor and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, resulting in a violent altercation between their respective supporters on January 8. The confrontation escalated to the point where gunshots were discharged and numerous individuals sustained injuries.

Afterward, the governor opted to skip a meeting convened by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu aimed at resolving the conflict between Arati and Osoro.
