Once more, the family of the deceased Chris Msando, the former ICT manager at the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC), finds itself in a state of sorrow.

Cornel Peter Msando, the sibling of Chris, breathed his last at a medical facility in Nairobi on January 28, 2024.

A death announcement in the local newspapers disclosed that Peter passed away after a short illness at MP Shah Hospital.

The burial is scheduled for February 10.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Cornel Peter Msando, on January 28, 2024, at M.P Shah Hospital,” the obit reads in part.

As per the obituary, he is survived by his spouse and three kids. A fundraising event to cover funeral costs is scheduled to occur at All Saints Cathedral on the evening of Tuesday, February 6.

“There will be a church service at Consolata Shrine Westlands on Thursday, February 8 at 10 am. Mass service and burial will take place on February 10, 2024, at his late father’s home in Lifunga Kobiero Village in Ugenya Siaya County,” it reads.

This occurs just a short time after the burial of Msando’s mother, a period of only five months.

Mama Maria Msando passed away on October 13, 2023, after six years since the tragic murder of her son, and she never witnessed justice being served.

In 2022, Maria disclosed that recalling her son’s murder continued to disturb her sleep, causing ongoing difficulty in getting rest.

She lamented that the brutal incident had not yet seen justice.

“The fact that justice has never been served for my family to get closure and move on, adds salt to the injury,” she said.

Mr. Msando, who had been assigned the responsibility of overseeing the Kenya Integrated Electoral Management System (KIEMS) for the 2017 elections, was discovered deceased on July 31, mere days before the scheduled August 8 polls.

At the point of his demise, Msando had served in the position for just two months, taking over after his predecessor was suspended for declining to collaborate with an audit firm assigned to purify the voters’ register.

On July 28, 2017, he disappeared, and four days later, his partially unclothed corpse, showing signs of torture, was discovered in the Maguga forest in Kikuyu, along with the body of a woman identified as Carol Ngumbu.

He bore extensive scratches and wounds on his back, and reports suggested the absence of one of his arms.

Autopsy results revealed that he had been tortured and strangled to death.
