KWS Retrieve Missing 11-Year-Old Boy From Crocodile’s Stomach

Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) has retrieved the body of an eleven-year-old boy who was mauled by a crocodile in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay.

The body was retrieved on Friday, February 2, after the crocodile was dissected by officers along the River Kuja.

This came after the officers conducted a 24-hour-plus search along the banks following the incident which took place on February 1.

FO, a grade two student, was attacked and killed by a crocodile when he went to fetch water from the river.ย

He was in the company of his peers, who on witnessing the incident raised an alarm.

His mother, Janet Auma, who was at home when the incident happened, heard the minors screaming and rushed to investigate the cause of the alarm.

Auma speaking to the media following the disappearance, clarified that she heard other children crying that Odongo had been grabbed by a crocodile.

โ€œI reached the place and saw my son held between the jaws of the crocodile. The reptile quickly dashed towards the deep side of the river before it dove into the water with the boy,โ€ Auma commented.

The mother begged a man on the other side of the river to help save her boy. However, he declined in fear of getting attacked in the process.

Neighbors who also heard the alarm rushed to the scene and tried to trace the crocodile but their efforts were futile.

Residents were thus forced to wait for KWS authorities to intervene.
