CS Moses Kuria Releases NYS Recruitment Schedule
Moses Kuria, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management, announced that the recruitment process for the National Youth Service (NYS) is scheduled to occur from February 5 to February 9, 2024.
CS Kuria, in a communication addressed to NYS Director General James Tembur, advocated for a meticulous distribution procedure in every ward to guarantee transparency and fairness.
“As we approach the National Youth Service (NYS) Recruitment Exercise scheduled to take place from the 5th to 9th February 2024, it is imperative to ensure a fair and transparent process in the distribution of recruits across different wards,” he stated.
“This meticulous distribution has been designed to promote equality and fairness, reflecting the essence of the NYS in fostering national unity.”
He emphasized the importance of adhering to the recruitment program that specifies the allocation of NYS recruits per ward.

Kuria additionally outlined several instructions to be followed throughout the recruitment process, including distributing the schedule among all relevant stakeholders, emphasizing the significance of upholding integrity and professionalism while adhering to the timetable, promptly reporting any inconsistencies, and establishing consistent monitoring and reporting mechanisms.
Moreover, the CS stated that opting for the approach of dispersing the recruits would promote confidence among the public and ensure fairness.
“This exhaustive approach to the distribution of recruits will contribute to the overall success of the NYS recruitment exercise and reinforce public trust in the fairness of the process,” he noted.
The instructions were issued approximately eight weeks after President William Ruto announced that his government would increase the enrollment of NYS trainees from the current 10,000 to 15,000 per group starting this year.
He mentioned that the goal was to attain an annual enrollment of 100,000 for the upcoming five years.
“This year, we are graduating 10,000, in next year in the first cohort, it will be 15,000, and in the next cohort, it will be 15,000. So next year alone, 30,000 young people from across Kenya will graduate in NYS as we position NYS as the incubator for all other arms of government,” Ruto said then.
