Murder Suspect Eric Matara Denies Killing Socialite Starlet Wahu
Eric Matara, the accused in the murder case, has refuted allegations of being responsible for the death of Starlet Wahu.
Matara, who was present at the Makadara Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices, virtually appeared before Justice Kanyi Kimondo at the Milimani Law Courts on February 2, 2024.
Wearing a black suit and a coordinating tie, he refuted the accusation of homicide in violation of Penal Code sections 203 and 204.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions plans to oppose his bail application.
Matara will stay in custody until February 26, 2024, when his request for bail will be considered.
Matara was taken into custody shortly after arriving at Mbagathi Hospital, where he allegedly appeared with injuries from stabbing.
Law enforcement officials report that he killed the prominent social figure at a temporary residence located in South B, a suburban area of Nairobi.
Surveillance cameras at the premises seemed to capture footage of the individual in question and the socialite, who happens to be the sibling of well-known pastor Vincent Kanyari, entering the building engaged in conversation.
Matara allegedly rented the apartment in the vicinity and then enticed Wahu, whom he had connected with on a dating site, to come to the residence.

She was found lifeless in an apartment, surrounded by a pool of blood and bearing multiple stab wounds.
During an interview, Pastor Kanyari clarified that he had no prior acquaintance with the man in question. He further stated that his sister fell victim to a tragic demise as she was enticed to her death due to being in love.
The clergyman additionally verified that, during the early hours of the morning, her sister attempted to contact her, but he didn’t answer because he was asleep. It was only later on that her body was found.
“We had not seen the man before. We learned about him after her death. This is so tragic for us, the family, and even her friends. May her soul rest in peace,” he told the Nairobi News in an exclusive interview.
“I am heartbroken; she was doing so well in life. We last met on Christmas, and on New Year’s Eve, we spent time together at home,” the preacher stated.
Wahu was interred on Saturday, January 6, at the residence of her parents in the Kamulu region of Ruai, Nairobi County.
She passed away following reports of receiving stab wounds to the head and right thigh in the incident.
