UDA MP Threatens To Lead Protests Into State House

The female residents of Maragua Constituency, under the leadership of their local Member of Parliament, Mary Wamaua, are considering staging a protest march to the State House due to concerns regarding the equitable distribution of water in their constituency.

The UDA parliamentarian expressed dissatisfaction during a protest about the Murang’a South Water and Sanitation Company Ltd (MUSWASCO) not adhering to water distribution regulations.

Wamaua urged the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) to investigate the matter, emphasizing that if the concern is not resolved promptly, a protest march to the statehouse is imminent.

โ€œWe demand that the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) reexamines the non-compliance by Murang’a South Water and Sanitation Company Ltd (MUSWASCO), failure to which we shall march to state house,โ€ Wamaua stated.

During the protest, women expressed their dismay to the press, highlighting the challenges they face in their lives caused by inadequate hygiene resulting from water scarcity.

“We don’t have water. If you visit different areas in Maragua you will find that all are crying due to lack of water. Women are not clean, just come to Kenol and see how people are dirty, there is no water for one to even take birth,โ€ one of the women stated.

Residents have expressed dissatisfaction with the Murang’a County government, accusing it of showing insufficient interest in resolving their water distribution concerns in the region, despite their repeated complaints.

Furthermore, the women pointed out that this circumstance was impacting education in the region, as children attending school had to temporarily set aside their academic responsibilities to search for water.

โ€œWhen kids come from school they have no time to study, they have to go to the rivers to get water. What is our governor doing? People are suffering because of a lack of water,โ€ a resident attending the demonstrations stated.

Additionally, she conveyed her concern about the health of the residents due to the utilization of contaminated water, which exhibited a greenish color.

Supporting the views expressed by the MP, Pauline Njeri, a UDA-nominated member of the Muranga County Assembly, expressed her readiness to participate in the movement aimed at reinstating the dignity of women.

โ€œAs a representative of the women in the UDA Party in Muranga county, we are not going to relent. We shall not sit and watch women suffering, lacking water to cook and even bathe,โ€ she stated.
