Kwani mwili yangu ni matofali? Jacque Maribe rants after missing court hearing

Jacky Maribe, the ex-prime-time TV news anchor, has criticized unidentified individuals who have subjected her to humiliation during her legal proceedings. She is currently facing murder charges alongside her former boyfriend, Jowie Irungu.

The situation has gained significant attention due to Ms. Maribe’s well-known reputation and her decline from a prominent position in the media industry.

On the 26th of January 2024, Ms. Maribe failed to appear in court, where Justice Grace Nzioka was scheduled to announce her verdict in the trial related to the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani in September 2018.

Mr Irungu and Ms Maribe are the prime suspects.

Mr. Katwa Kigen, the lawyer representing Ms. Maribe, asserted that her absence in court was due to her being “seriously unwell,” even though she was prepared for the verdict.

Right away, online users started connecting her state of being “gravely indisposed” with a recent Instagram post she had shared just hours before the decision regarding her possible weekend arrangements.

โ€œThings to see and do this weekendโ€ฆQatar how you doing??โ€ wrote Ms Maribe on her Instagram stories.

The reading of the judgment has been postponed for the third time. Following Justice Nzioka’s decision to adjourn it to March 15, 2024, Ms. Maribe took to her social media to express her distress over the ongoing humiliation.

โ€œTo humiliate someone because of ill health is so wrong. And to make it clear, I have never missed court except once when I was ill. We are making it an issue that in 5 years I fell ill. Kwani mwili yangu imejengwa na matofali? (Is my body made of bricks?) Hata the time I supposedly sought time to travel we were only being respectable enough to tell the court and there was no due date interfering with that,โ€ wrote Ms Maribe on January 26, 2024.

In December 2023, Ms. Maribe expressed her frustration on her social media platform once more, voicing her discontent about the prolonged duration of the court case spanning several years.

โ€œIt needs to stop!! 5 years I have respected the court, but this is too much. This is not Kenya, Justice delayed is justice denied. Stop putting peopleโ€™s lives in limbo. If I am not culpable Iโ€™m not. Iโ€™m tired of this,โ€ ranted Ms Maribe.

After her passionate post, she shared a subsequent update expressing excitement about her upcoming birthday. Alongside this message, she posted a picture featuring her hand adorned with a wedding ring resting on a bed of pink and white flowers.

โ€œHow to start your morning when stressed over courtโ€ฆโ€ Ms Maribe captioned the photo.

Ms. Monica Kimani met a tragic end in her Lamuria Garden residence on September 19, 2018, where she was brutally murdered. Having recently returned from South Sudan and spending time with friends, her life took a dark turn. Concerned by unanswered calls, her brother, Mr. George Kimani, went to her apartment and discovered her lifeless body in the bathtub.

Jowie Irungu was identified at the crime scene during the investigation, while Ms. Maribe was implicated in the murder for aiding Mr. Irungu in destroying evidence related to the crime. The prosecution contended in court that both individuals shared a common intention and collaborated covertly to eliminate the deceased.

The duo denied murdering Ms Kimani.

If found guilty, Jowie and Maribe could be sentenced to death, face life imprisonment, or be sentenced to prison terms.
