Kindiki: Don’t Drag My Name Into 2027 Succession Politics

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has strongly criticized allegations associating him with the 2027 political succession.

Discussing politics regarding 2027 or any other upcoming period was considered insensitive by the CS.

“Any political talks on future elections a year after a General Election is tactless, anti-people and primitive.”

Kindiki expressed that the discussion is a stain on the maturity of Kenya’s democracy.

The assertion follows a segment where leaders from Mt Kenya proposed Kindiki as the suitable candidate to succeed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the 2027 elections.

The leaders proposed that in his 2027 re-election bid, President William Ruto consider choosing the Interior boss as his running mate instead of Gachagua.

Encouraging an end to discussions about succession politics, the head of the Interior Department cautioned political leaders against involving his name in the conversation.

“The ongoing debate ought to stop, but if it must proceed, I respectfully request that my name should not be dragged in it,” he said.

Kindiki clarified that President William Ruto had designated him to advocate for the implementation of the administration’s initiatives aimed at transforming our nation into a secure and sustainable homeland for both the current and future generations.

Consequently, the position he holds as the head of the Interior demands careful attention and complete concentration.

“The sensitive role demands relentless focus and total abstinence from all manner of distracting misadventure,” Kindiki said.

This occurred just a day after Gathoni wa Muchomba, the Member of Parliament for Githunguri, urged leaders from the Mt Kenya region to concentrate on meeting the requirements of the common people rather than engaging in succession politics.

On Monday, the legislator conveyed the idea that it is currently the time for leaders to focus on advancement and development.

She expressed the view that in the face of the rapidly increasing cost of living, leaders must come together and collaborate to ensure a more manageable and sustainable quality of life.

“This is not the time to start thinking or planning on who will be deputy president from Mt Kenya. It’s time to get one man, one shilling vote for our people who desperately need it. Life has become unbearable,” she said.

On Saturday, Gachagua urged leaders from the Mt Kenya region to come together, avoid divisive politics, and encourage increased involvement of young people in constructive socio-economic endeavors.

The Deputy President mentioned that there is a political plot aimed at splitting the voting block of the Mt Kenya region.
