Inside 30-Day Ultimatum Issued To Judiciary And Wetangula During Ruto & CJ Koome Crunch Talks
President William Ruto, Chief Justice Martha Koome, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, and other high-ranking government officials convened at State House on Monday to address the ongoing standoff between the Executive and Judiciary branches and seek a resolution.
Following weeks of exchanging criticisms, the heads of the Executive and Judiciary have ultimately come to a harmonious resolution, imposing a 30-day deadline on all three branches of government to implement measures addressing corruption and eliminating obstacles that impede the delivery of services to the people of Kenya.
After 30 days, it is anticipated that the concerned parties, including the Chief Justice and Speaker Wetangula, will present suggestions for policies, guidelines, regulations, and legislative proposals aimed at accomplishing this objective.
“Within 30 days, each arm of Government will submit the proposals made to a forum of the National Council of the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) convened by Her Ladyship the Chief Justice,” the statement read in part.
Additionally, by the statement, the heads of the three branches of government have concurred that once the deadline has passed, each branch will present its suggestions. These suggestions will then be employed to create a plan delineating the immediate, mid-term, and long-term actions to be implemented.
The gathering initiated by the president, as per Chief Justice Martha Koome’s request, follows several months of persistent criticisms against the Judiciary by President Ruto, his deputy, and prominent leaders of Kenya Kwanza.

For an extended period, President William Ruto had been accusing the senior echelons of the Judiciary of corruption.
In a post-meeting declaration, President Ruto emphasized the significance of the gathering in tackling the country’s transformation and eradicating corruption.
“The Executive, the Legislature, and the Judiciary commit to working together to enhance service delivery, tackle corruption, and promote the administration of justice. We cannot afford to let narrow, selfish interests derail the much-needed transformation of our country,” the President stated.
President Ruto has also pledged to increase the allocation of resources to the Judiciary. These funds will be directed specifically to the recruitment of 25 High Court Judges and 11 Court of Appeal Judges.
Some of the funds pledged to CJ Koome will be directed to support the Judiciary’s program for leasing vehicles, aiming to meet the transportation requirements of its personnel.
Those present at the Monday gathering comprised Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu, Attorney General Justin Muturi, Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, and Council of Governors Chair, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.
