MT. Kenya’s Political Earthquake: Kioni Reveals Dramatic Ruto Exodus, Locals Rally for Azimio
On Monday, January 22, Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni expressed the view that President William Ruto has forfeited the backing of Mount Kenya residents due to unpopular policies.
Kioni asserted that these policies could result in the Head of State losing his standing as the preferred presidential candidate in the upcoming general election for the region.
In a Spice FM interview on Monday, Kioni addressed the criticism he received from coalition colleagues like Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai. Alai pointed out that Mount Kenya did not participate in nationwide demonstrations when the opposition called for them.
The ex-Ndaragwa Member of Parliament asserted that given the prevailing political climate, the opposition is poised to capitalize on the discontent among Mt Kenya residents. According to him, a significant number of individuals from the region who previously supported the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the last presidential election may choose to become representatives for the Azimio movement.
“I ran in 2007 at a time when I had little resources. Some people come to me to say that they appointed themselves to guard my votes when they discovered I had no agents. That is how it is going to be in Mount Kenya in 2027.”
Therefore, Kioni firmly believes that the Mt Kenya region will be the pivotal voting bloc that ultimately removes President William Ruto from office in 2027.
“Let me tell you that even though they may not take part in demonstrations, the people who will force the guy (President Ruto) out, will be Mount Kenya. The percentage of people who have said enough is enough is beyond what we had imagined,” he stated.

Kioni mentioned that the present government had lost favor not just in Mt Kenya, where he secured more than 3 million votes, but also throughout the entire country of Kenya.
He mentioned that poor governance had resulted in the regime losing favor nationwide.
The ex-Ndaragwa Member of Parliament stated that the macadamia and coffee sectors have experienced significant challenges since the current administration assumed office.
Regarding the issue of division within Azimio, Kioni cautioned the members that any form of discord would only serve to advantage Kenya Kwanza.
“Anyone of us who wants to break out and think that you can do it alone, you want to give William (Ruto) more time,” he added.
Mount Kenya is currently grappling with a political quandary as a power struggle emerges between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro over the leadership role in the region.
More than 15 lawmakers belonging to the dominant UDA party have given their support to Ndindi Nyoro as the potential successor to DP Gachagua as the UDA’s running mate in the 2027 elections, to eventually have Nyoro assume the position of Head of State in 2032.
