Ruto To Convert Nairobi Waste Into Electricity- Rachel Ruto Tells Foreigners

First Lady Rachel Ruto has disclosed that President William Ruto is initiating a venture aimed at converting waste in Nairobi into electrical power.

Addressing the audience at the Organization of African First Ladies Development (OAFLAD) in Maputo, Mozambique, this Saturday, the First Lady disclosed that the initiative would involve a partnership between the County Government and the National Government.

She asserted that the initiative would aid the nation in effectively handling the daily generated waste.

“The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) reports indicate that Kenya generates an estimated 22,000 tonnes of waste daily,” she explained.

“In partnership with Nairobi County, the government aims to clean the city of Nairobi by converting waste refuse into electricity. Many other waste management waste initiatives are being run at the county government level.”

Rachel emphasized that the State is committed to encouraging the adoption of clean energy, particularly in the realm of cooking, and also expressed the intention to transform plastic waste into items like roofing tiles and fencing posts.

If the project comes to fruition, it will significantly contribute to Ruto’s efforts in advocating for the adoption of renewable energy.

Since assuming leadership, the Head of State has actively advocated for the adoption of cooking gas and has been a strong proponent of reducing the cost of a gas cylinder to Ksh300.

He also disclosed that there were ongoing efforts to bring piped gas into households in Kenya.

In September of the previous year, Ruto organized the Africa Climate Summit 2023, advocating for a reassessment of financial structures that have imposed heavy debt burdens on Africa and impeded its economic progress.

“We demand a fair playing ground for our countries to access the investment needed to unlock the potential and translate it into opportunities,” Ruto stated after the Summit concluded.

“We further demand a just multilateral development finance architecture to liberate our economies from odious debt and onerous barriers to necessary financial resources.”

During her address, Rachel also disclosed that the Mama Doing Good initiative was providing complimentary meals to students and advocating for increased accessibility to education.

“As a champion and voice for children in Kenya, I am advocating for a right to education for all children with a focus on influencing policy directions that remove barriers to school enrolment attendance and transition,” she concluded.
