Uhuru’s Retirement Vow to Support Raila

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has reaffirmed his support for Raila Odinga, the leader of the coalition party Azimio la Umoja One Kenya, whom he backed in the contentious 2022 presidential election.

Uhuru stated in Luanda, Vihiga County, shortly after attending the burial of former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha in Siaya County, that despite his retirement from active politics, he remains highly energized and will not leave the political arena any time soon.

The former head of state stated that he would continue to support the Azimio leader in his fight for the liberation and unity of all Kenyans.

โ€œI have been the president for nearly 10 yearsโ€ฆright now Iโ€™m retired, but retired is not tired. Kustaafu sio kuchokaโ€ฆata wengine wakistaafu ndio nguvu inaongezeka,โ€ he stated amidst cheers from the crowd.

Even though I am not actively involved in politics, I am still a Raila supporter. If he tells me to leave, I must leave.”

The fourth president delivered his first public address since leaving office, along with opposition leader Mr. Odinga and other members of Azimio.

Uhuru defended his unwavering support for the Azimio leader similarly, asserting that it is within his democratic rights to support any political leader he deems appropriate.

โ€œI am within my democratic rights to support the person I want. Hakuna kiti natafuta, lakini Baba akitafuta mimi sina shida, mimi niko hapo.โ€
