On Wednesday, Maina Njenga, the ex-leader of Mungiki, intensified his political dispute with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, reaching a peak as the simmering tensions between these two Mt Kenya politicians flared up.

In an interview on Inooro FM, Njenga underscored that should Ndindi Nyoro decide to vie for the presidency in 2032, the area would support his candidacy.

Njenga observed that it was about time for a president to come from Murang’a County, suggesting that the Kiharu MP would be a highly suitable choice for the highest office.

“We do not refute that Gachagua is the senior leader in the region. However we can not fail to listen to their voices here, Gachagua cannot work alone,” he stated.

Furthermore, he rejected the notion that it was premature for Nyoro to commence campaigning for the 2032 elections. According to Njenga, the present moment presents an opportune time to establish the foundation, enabling the youthful MP to gather sufficient support for a successful bid to follow in President William Ruto’s footsteps.

Njenga characterized Nyoro as an ambitious political figure and urged those impeding his political progress to desist. Additionally, he appealed to leaders from the Mt Kenya region to come together and present a united front to prevent further division in the area.

“I have no problem with the DP, let him do his job and we will do ours. All I can say is one person can not run the country,” he remarked.

Njenga urged fellow politicians to fulfill their constitutional duties before the upcoming election.

At the same time, he criticized high-ranking government officials who have accused him of involvement in unlawful activities within the Mt. Kenya region.

In the interview, Njenga expressed dissatisfaction with the accusations that he was covertly resurrecting the Mungiki sect to cause chaos, assertions that he denied.

Njenga emphatically declared that he no longer held the position of the group’s leader as of 2020, and he expressed unawareness of anyone else assuming that role.

“This is propaganda and it’s only emanating from a few people. These are people trying to cause chaos and sell fear to the people,” he stated.

On Monday, DP Gachagua expressed disapproval towards the leaders supporting Ndindi Nyoro as the potential successor to President William Ruto. He deemed such discussions as premature and viewed them as a challenge to the existing Head of State’s efforts to revitalize Kenya’s economy.
