Raila Faults Church For Failing To Call Out Kenya Kwanza Excesses

Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio, has criticized the church for its silence in the face of the government’s erosion of constitutional achievements in the nation.

Odinga, along with several other leaders, attended a prayer service at the Kisumu Anglican Church of Kenya.

The Azimio leader took advantage of the situation to direct criticism towards the church, accusing it of remaining silent during times of hardship for the Kenyan people.

โ€œI am ashamed as a member of the Anglican church. The church has remained silent when Kenyans are suffering,โ€ he said.

Odinga additionally inquired why churches have not shown concern about the exorbitant cost of living, the oppressive taxes implemented by the Kenya Kwanza government, and the conflict with the Judiciary.

President Ruto has been spearheading a campaign against the Judiciary led by Martha Koome, alleging that it is undermining government initiatives.

โ€œWe want the church to speak to power and tell those in power that this is wrong,โ€ Odinga said.

The leader of ODM, currently engaged in a week-long grassroots mobilization in Western Kenya, has cautioned the church against allowing political figures to exploit it as a platform to subvert constitutional achievements.

โ€œThey are allowed to make themselves look like the holiest yet they are the ones who are oppressing Kenyans,โ€ he said.

The leader of Azimio called upon the church to unite with fellow Kenyans in resisting the efforts of the Kenya Kwanza government to roll back the progress that has been made.

โ€œI remember Bishop Muge, we could speak when it was time to speak. He could speak even when the Moi government did not want to hear any voices,โ€ he said.

Odinga, joined by Kisumu governor Anyangโ€™ Nyongโ€™o, Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, and various MPs, is scheduled to initiate his informational visits in western Kenya, commencing with Busia County on Monday, followed by a visit to the coast next week.
