Cherargei: We’ll elect government-friendly LSK officials

On Sunday, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei expressed his intention to advocate for significant changes in the leadership of the Law Society of Kenya during the upcoming elections.

The outspoken legislator stated that supporters of President William Ruto will work to ensure that the upcoming leadership of LSK aligns with the government’s objectives.

”The current law society of Kenya is made up of people who are working with those opposed to the government and that is why in the coming elections we have people who support the government’s agenda,” Cherargei said.

Addressing a congregation in Iten, Cherargei mentioned that individuals with influential ties within the LSK were impeding the progress of the Kenya Kwanza agenda.

”I am a member of the LSK and when we have elections soon we will install people who will support your(Ruto’s) agenda,” he said.

The Member of Parliament stated that last week’s demonstrations organized by the LSK received backing from opposition figures who are against the Kenya Kwanza initiative.

LSK members staged nationwide protests in response to comments made by President William Ruto regarding the Judiciary.

As they danced on the streets of Nairobi with placards, the lawyers maintained that the president should respect the judiciary and its mandate. Vocal advocate, Ndegwa Njiru, was heard chanting ‘Mambo ni matatu’ “Mambo ni mangapi?,” he said as other lawyers joined in, ‘Mambo ni matatu!” they said in unison.

“Mambo ni matatu, heshimu mahakama, heshimu sheria ama uende nyumbani,” Ndegwa said as he was joined by his colleagues.

Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala accused the opposition of using the LSK to fight President Rutoโ€™s administration.

Speaking on Friday, Malala claimed that the LSK was cooperating with opposition forces to challenge the Kenya Kwanza government.

โ€œThe Law Society of Kenya should exercise political fairness and refrain from colluding with the opposition to undermine the government,โ€ he said.

The former Kakamega Senator was speaking during the burial of Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindikiโ€™s father-in-law in Tharaka Nithi County.
