President Ruto Accuses Uhuru Government of Court Bribery Budget, Challenges Judiciary

On Tuesday, President William Ruto claimed that the administration led by his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, had allocated funds to offer bribes to the courts and influence the Judiciary’s rulings.

On Tuesday, during the ceremony for the initiation of the Kapsuswa Affordable Housing Project in Uasin Gishu County, President Ruto addressed critics of his pilot project, emphasizing his firm resolve to combat corruption within the Judiciary and asserting that he would not yield to any opposition.

The leader stated that certain individuals were encouraging him to establish a budget aimed at offering incentives to the Judiciary, similar to the practices carried out during the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He pledged not to feel frightened by legal proceedings and asserted that his government wouldn’t manipulate the supposed budget to sway judgments. Instead, they would confront corruption directly.

โ€œSome people are saying that because the previous government had a budget to bribe courts, I should go and come up with a budget to bribe the courts,โ€ Ruto said.

โ€œDo you want your money to be used to bribe the courts? No budget will be made to bribe anyone in the courts. The courts are servants of Kenyans.โ€

President Ruto, appearing visibly agitated, restated his previous statements alleging that certain individuals were working with judges to undermine Kenya Kwanza initiatives like the Housing Programme.

He comforted the locals by promising to eliminate corruption within the legal system, affirming that no one would be permitted to hinder the plans designed for the benefit of the Kenyan people.

โ€œWe respect the independence of the Judiciary and other institutions, but that independence does not extend to sabotage the public interests,โ€ he said.

โ€œAny institution that undermines the delivery of Constitutional rights; social and economic to the people of Kenya is undermining the constitution and we are going to make sure all of us respect the sovereignty of the people of Kenya.โ€

He added: โ€œWe must deal. Firmly, decisively with corruption in the Judiciary and we are going to root out corruption in the judiciaryโ€ฆit is still subject to the people of Kenya.โ€

As per the president, the initiatives undertaken by his administration are intended to serve the interests of everyday citizens in Kenya. He believes that court rulings that oppose these projects are unconstitutional because they go against the wishes of the public, putting them at a disadvantage.

He consequently stated that he wouldn’t back down from his efforts to generate employment opportunities and achieve the goals outlined in his campaign agenda.

โ€œThe biggest problem in Kenya is unemployment. Please, I want to tell you kuweni na utu. You have jobs, and your children have jobs. The children of the hustler and mama mbogas have no jobs,โ€ Ruto said.

โ€œI am their lawyer and I cannot bribe the courts; instead of giving brines to courts, I will end corruption in courts.โ€
