Candidates Who Missed 2023 KCPE To Join Form One, Take Qualifying Test Later
Candidates who missed taking their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams last year will still be admitted to secondary schools this year, as stated by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Monday.
CS Machogu mentioned that a group of 2,000 students would join Form One on January 15, along with those who took the exam.
The education minister stated that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will organize alternate plans for students to take their qualifying exams at a later time before they reach Form Three.
“Upon further scrutiny of the number of candidates who failed to sit their examinations, the council has only been able to trace 2,000 eligible learners… it has been decided that the 2,000 candidates join Form One January 15th and be allowed to sit qualifying examinations later,” Machogu said.

“They will however be advised to ensure they sit their qualifying examinations before they join Form Three to enable them to be registered to sit their KCSE when they get to Form Four.”
On November 23, 2023, when the 2023 KCPE results were announced, the Cabinet Secretary mentioned that students who were absent for the exam would be allowed to take a special test this month. This initiative aims to prevent any student from the 2023 cohort from missing out on admission to Form One.
He at the time placed the number of learners who had missed the exam at 9,354.
