Meru Blogger Sniper’s Murder Probe: DCI Detectives Raid Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s Home

Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrived at the residence of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza in Milimani estate on Saturday, setting up and securing the area for most of the day.

Insiders informed PoliticalPulseChat that the maneuver was consistent with an investigation related to the killing of Daniel Muthiani, also known as Sniper, the outspoken blogger from the county.

Sniper’s killing has been condemned by a host of the country’s top leaders, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki who vowed stern action against individuals involved.

The investigators are reportedly considering Governor Mwangaza’s home as a potential focus of the investigation, attracting significant public interest.

The DCI is requesting 21 days to detain five suspects who were arrested for the murder.

In court filings, the DCI stated that this timeframe would allow them to finalize investigations, mentioning that additional individuals suspected of involvement have yet to be apprehended.

The five suspects presently in custody are; Kenneth Mutua Gatiri alias Gasigi, Fredrick Muruiki Kiugi alias Pope, Franklin Kimathi alias Dudu Ras, Timothy Kinoti alias Timo, and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai alias Tali.

According to investigators, the deceased was lured by the five suspects through a phone call alleging that Governor Mwangaza wanted to meet him.

Sniper disappeared on December 2 and his body was discovered on December 16, 2023.

A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of the deceased at the Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary in Tharaka Nithi, Meru County, revealed that he died of strangulation.

Government pathologist Johansen Oduor, who conducted the examination, said Sniper had marks on his neck and exhibited signs of a person who had lacked oxygen.

He also had fractured ribs and showed injuries on his head which suggested that he was strangled before being thrown into a river.
