Raila Odinga’s New Year Message to Kenyans

Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio, has made three appeals in his New Year message, urging his supporters to unite with him in his mission to free the nation.

In his annual address, Raila encouraged Kenyans to use their authority as citizens to reclaim the nation’s honor and improve its welfare.

Specifically, he emphasized the substantial charges and significant reductions in income taxes taken from individuals’ salaries.

Raila criticized the government for its track record of unfulfilled promises, highlighting the consistent failure to deliver on commitments made by the current administration.

โ€œWe shall exercise our sovereign power of the people to stop death and suffering of our people and restore our dignity and well-being of our people. We shall work with all people of goodwill to restore hope and faith in our nation,โ€ read a statement by Raila.

Moreover, he urged Kenyans to establish an alliance among individuals who are ready to strategize, rally, and coordinate efficiently to advocate for the nation.

The ultimate plea was for Kenyans to put aside their disagreements and respond appropriately when needed.

“We shall work with all people of goodwill to restore hope and faith in our nation,” he noted.ย

The ex-prime minister has been actively highlighting and condemning the Government for imposing excessive taxes on Kenyan citizens.

During his speech to Siaya residents, Raila warned the Government of initiating a new series of demonstrations and encouraged all Kenyans to participate if the excessive taxes were not removed.

โ€œKenyan families continue to struggle with record-high price inflation, with the price of groceries, petroleum products, and other essentials out of control as a result of taxes. Taxes are consuming close to half of earnings by people and businesses,” he explained.

โ€œWe have said that come the new year, the new tax law must be removed, the Finance Act must be removed, if they refuse we will go back to the streets.

The opposition leader restated his commitment to advocating for a taxation proposal aimed at reducing income tax rates uniformly.

The Azimio leader additionally encouraged allied Members of Parliament to reject any suggestion of introducing fresh taxes on any goods or services, emphasizing that Kenyans were already experiencing hardships.
