Malala defends UDA over 2027 campaign claims
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secretary general Cleophas Malala has defended the party over what has been termed by critics as early 2027 campaigns.
Speaking on Friday, Malala insisted that UDA is a political party whose core mandate is engaging in political activities.
He went on to note that despite being the party that formed the government, it is not part of the country’s Executive arm of government, which is headed by President William Ruto.
“UDA party is not a corporate organization, it’s a political party. Our core business is politics. We cannot suspend our core business. If we stop recruiting members and planning our political journey, what will we be doing?
“There is a difference between the government and UDA. That’s why the head of government is William Ruto. UDA is a political party and is not part of the Executive. We are the ruling party that facilitated our members to go to the Executive to implement the desires of our people. We are not the Executive,” Malala said on TV47.

He said people should stop saying UDA they are engaging in early politics when they are running their political activities.
He insisted that all they are doing is within their constitutional mandate, as a party.
“Our core mandate is to build our party politically and that is why we have an active secretariat four years to elections. People should desist from thinking that when we are recruiting members we are doing politics. That is our core business as a political party,” Malala added.
The ruling party, whose party leader is President William Ruto has been on a member recruitment drive across the country.
The party, according to Malala, intends to have at least 15 million registered members by the next election cycle, 2027.
The recruitment drive has mainly focused on Opposition strongholds.
