It Will Be Useless To Vie In 2027 If Reforms Are Not Made Now, Raila Says

ODM leader Raila Odinga has said that for now, he is not thinking about the 2027 General Election, as it is four years away and too early to think of campaigns.

In an exclusive interview with Citizen TV, Raila added that it is useless for anyone to vie in the 2027 election if reforms the opposition has been advocating for are not affected.

These reforms include the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and fidelity to the Political Parties Act.

“We are still concerned with what happened in 2022. Unless we resolve it properly, it will be useless for anybody to run in 2027. Unless we really sort out properly that mess we had, to have a proper electoral commission that can preside over an election and give you real results,” Raila said.ย

Asked about his early pronouncement that hinted at his support for Kalonzo Musyoka in 2027 to vie for president, Raila denied endorsing the former vice president, instead saying he was recognising his unwavering support for his presidential ambitions over the past decade.

The opposition leader described Kalonzo as a trustworthy person who has stood for what is right, and that his kind words were a response to President William Ruto.

“I didn’t say I would support Kalonzo Musyoka, I acknowledged Kalonzo as a trustworthy person, someone you can trust who has stood with us through thick and thin. I was responding to Ruto when I said Kalonzo is enough,” Raila added.

He clarified that the Azimio la Umoja team is intact and when the right time comes they will agree on who will bear the flag for president.ย ย
