Governor Orengo’s Remarks Attract Condemnation From Nyanza UDA Officials

In a fiery response, officials from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the Nyanza region have strongly criticized Siaya Governor James Orengo for his recent comments targeting them.ย

Orengo, known for his vocal stance within the ODM party, reportedly declared that no UDA officials would be permitted to address public gatherings where he is present.

Kennedy Obuya, the chairman of Homa Bay’s UDA party, condemned Orengo’s statements, labeling them as bordering on incitement and intolerance.

Obuya emphasized that such remarks should not be tolerated, alleging that Orengo and his associates aim to incite government bodies to take action against UDA, seeking political sympathy from the Luo Nyanza region while inciting the public against their party.

Obuya, speaking on behalf of UDA officials from Migori, Siaya, and Kisumu, accused the ODM of feeling threatened by UDA’s growing popularity in the region, resorting to what he termed as underhanded tactics.

Despite these challenges, Obuya affirmed its commitment to persist and continue the ongoing nationwide registration of party members.

Adding to the escalating tension, Ugenya MP David Ochieng and former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo, both aligned with UDA, were reportedly ejected from a burial event in Siaya County attended by Orengo and Raila Odinga, the leader of the ODM party.

This incident further highlights the deepening divide and clashes between the UDA and ODM factions in the region.
