EACC Raids Vihiga County Assembly Offices Amidst Arrests and Ongoing Crackdown

In a dramatic move, detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) stormed the premises of Vihiga County Assembly offices on Thursday.

The operation, accompanied by armed police, raised eyebrows and intensified ongoing scrutiny of alleged malpractices within the government body.

Reports indicate that this crackdown, currently unfolding, has not only seen a thorough search of the premises but has also resulted in the apprehension of officials in Eldoret, heightening the gravity of the situation.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a significant recovery made by the commission recently. An eye-watering sum of Ksh.47 million was reclaimed, a sum alleged to have been embezzled from the County Assembly of Homa Bay during the years 2015 to 2017.

The anti-graft agency revealed that this staggering amount was siphoned through a fraudulent scheme, masterminded by the assembly’s former clerk, Bob Kephat Otieno, his spouse, and a local bank manager.

This revelation underscores the magnitude of corruption and the intricate networks involved, raising concerns about the depth and reach of such illicit practices within governmental structures.
