e-Citizen revenue collection hits a record Sh900m per day, PS says
For the inaugural occasion, the government’s earnings through the eCitizen portal a day have surpassed the Sh900 million milestone.
Julius Bitok, the Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services, stated that the most recent figures from the government services’ online access and payment platform indicate a collection of Sh903.6 million on December 20, 2023.
Roughly one-third of the total sum came from transactions conducted in US dollars, amounting to $1,446,495, whereas the remainder, equivalent to Sh680.4 million, was in the local currency.
The graph illustrates a consistent increase in funds gathered via the platform after President William Ruto instructed all government bodies to make their services available on the eCitizen platform by the year’s end.
“This is a rise in all ways and we expect more in the coming days,” said Bitok.
Ruto additionally instructed that all payments for governmental services must go through a unified pay bill number, 222222.

The aim was to improve oversight and transparency in gathering income while also preventing losses from various collection sites.
Adhering to the directive, the current availability of over 14,000 services on eCitizen led to a daily revenue increase, reaching an average of Sh300 million last month.
Information obtained from the Treasury indicates that there was an increase in revenue collection from Sh1.44 billion in June to Sh4.664 billion in November, following the Presidential directive.
The figures for July, August, and September were Sh2.362 billion, Sh3.636 billion, and Sh4.233 billion in that order.
The government relies on an anticipated daily increase of 5,000 new registrations on eCitizen, along with the current 11 million users, as well as the introduction of additional services to boost its daily income collection.
