‘Don’t Blame Azimio For The High Cost Of Living,’ Raila Says

ODM party leader Raila Odinga has said that the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition should not be blamed for the failure of the National Dialogue Committee to address the issue of the high cost of living during the bipartisan talks.

Odinga, who was speaking in Awendo Constituency, Migori County where he was hosted by Awendo Member of Parliament Walter Owino, said it is the work of the government to reduce the cost of living.

The opposition leader said Azimio tabled the issue of high-cost living as one of the main agendas during the bipartisan talk but unfortunately, they failed to agree.

“The cost of living is not the responsibility of the Opposition; it is the responsibility of the government in power. We have the responsibility of keeping them in check and to tell them Kenyans demand the cost of living to be lowered,” he said.

“During the talks, our delegation made it very clear that they were not happy with what Kenya Kwanza was doing in refusing to reduce taxes on commodities like fuel and VAT on several food items.”

He however said that the Coalition will continue to push the government to lower the cost of living adding that the people of Kenya are suffering because of the hiked cost of commodities.

“We will continue to keep them in check and we will not tire in telling them that Kenyans are suffering and that the donkey is no longer tired but has fallen,” said Odinga.

The ODM leader was accompanied by Migori County Governor Ochilo Ayacko, Awendo MP Walter Owino, and Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi among other leaders.

Odinga urged the ODM party supporters to come out and register as party members in the ongoing party registration.

He said the ODM party remains a national party with huge influence across the country and they are not worried about the claims that the UDA party is getting its way into the Nyanza region.
