ODM Responds Over Letter Withdrawing of Azimio Agreement

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) refutes claims suggesting it has started preparations to leave the Azimio la Umoja alliance.

On Thursday, the political group under Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s leadership denounced a letter claiming their intent to pull out from the Azimio pact as false.

ODM asserted that it remained part of the coalition and encouraged the public to disregard the letter.

“Only fake minds, fake things,” the party clarified.

The primary opposition party provided a reply following the widespread circulation of the letter on social media, causing it to gain significant attention throughout most of the day.

As per the fabricated communication sent to Ann Nderitu, the Registrar of Political Parties, it was claimed that ODM stated a lack of trust among coalition members as the cause for their departure from the coalition led by Former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Significantly, the letter surfaced during a rift between Raila’s loyal supporters and leaders affiliated with the Azimio coalition parties.

Specifically, Makau Mutua, a key associate of Raila, has urged Jeremiah Kioni, the Secretary General of the Jubilee Party, and Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc Kenya Party, to exit the coalition due to their position on the bipartisan National Dialogue Committee report.

ODM had given its approval to the report, whereas other coalition leaders such as Karua voiced their disagreement with it.

“I will take my brother Jeremiah Kioni seriously when he and his Kamwene siblings organize Maandamano in the Mountain,” Matua stated.

His comments led Kioni to retaliate, igniting friction within the coalition that has been plagued by distrust and the emergence of splinter groups following Raila’s defeat in the election to President William Ruto.

“Unfortunately, some busybodies led by Makau Mutua have set โ€˜maandamanoโ€™ as a standard to measure loyalty or respect granted to individuals in Azimio,” Kioni responded.

Both Uhuru and Raila have yet to address the differences among their members publicly.
