Interior CS Kindiki Directs IG Japhet Koome to Offer Govt Jobs to Police Widows
Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has instructed Inspector General Japheth Koome to provide employment opportunities to widows whose spouses died while on duty.
Per CS Kindiki, this measure will guarantee that widows can sustain themselves, serving as a method to provide solace and support to bereaved families in distress.
Kindiki addressed the Joint Commemorative Service honoring fallen heroes held at the National Police Service College in Embakasi, Nairobi.
“We have agreed on those widows who have the requirements, we have several positions in which we can support you to be employed, not in the police service but generally the public service.”
“Therefore I want to direct the National Police Service Commission, IG, and the PSs to finalize the arrangements and the need assessment, we can just start with this year and see those we can place for employment,” Kindiki stated.
By the instruction, the hiring process will commence by considering widows who have recently lost their husbands this year, and subsequently extend to include those impacted in prior years.
The government will assist the children of widows lacking the required qualifications in dealing with the loss of the main earners in the family.
“As one of the legacies of the current regime, in the coming months, will also set up an endowment fund to offer scholarships and other financial support for grieving families” CS Kindiki stated.

“I did ask the institutions concerned to set up the endowment fund, and the vice chairperson of the national police service who is here, has assured me that the policy framework for the endowment fund has been complemented and is waiting for my approval,” he further clarified.
He pledged to put the fund into action within the fiscal year 2022/2023 and guarantee that it is administered by the families who lost their dear ones, not by the government.
In December of the previous year, CS Kindiki declared that the government would give priority to the relatives of deceased police officers in future police recruitment processes.
He stated that the highest priority in the countrywide initiative would be given to children, widows, and immediate family members. However, the implementation of the plan has not occurred yet.
“We will sustain prioritization of the consideration of at least one eligible member whenever recruitment opportunities in our police service and the prison services arise,” Kindiki stated on December 16, 2023.
