Inua Jamii beneficiaries to get Sh2,000 from Mpesa agents –Ruto
President William Ruto has said that Inua Jamii beneficiaries will start receiving their Sh2,000 monthly stipends from Mpesa agents.
Ruto was speaking on Tuesday during the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens.
He said the program has had challenges where the beneficiaries have been traveling long distances just to get the money.
“This program has had challenges with the beneficiaries traveling long distances and spending considerable portions of their stipend on logistics. Working with Safaricom, we have structured a new delivery mechanism for beneficiaries to receive their stipends from Mpesa agents in their localities,” he said.
He said the Inua Jamii beneficiaries have always incurred costs and other inconveniences when collecting the money.
By them receiving their stipend from the Mpesa agents, Ruto said it will now be of benefit to them.
On August 15, it was made clear that the beneficiaries would now receive their money monthly.
In the past, the government made payments into the accounts of beneficiaries after every two months.

Inua Jamii programme is the government’s flagship National Safety Net Programme whose objectives are to uplift the lives of the poor and vulnerable citizens through regular and reliable bi-monthly cash transfers.
The government released Sh2.8 billion which had been credited into the accounts of over 1 million beneficiaries to receive Sh2,000 as payment for July.
The program included Cash Transfers for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, Older Persons Cash Transfer, Persons with Severe Disabilities Cash Transfer, and the Hunger Safety Net Programme.
President Ruto directed that the money for the program be released on the 15th of every month.
For November, the government released Sh2,095,360,000 for the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Program and another Sh6,118,000 for those enrolled in the Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE), programme.
Ruto further committed that his administration will be diligent in ensuring the timely disbursement of funds.
“If there are people who deserve our support, it is vulnerable in society,” he said during an Interdenominational Church Service in Taita Taveta on July 24.
