Ex-Harambee Stars Great Ahmed Breik Dead, Laid To Rest In Mombasa
Former Harambee Stars attacking midfielder Ahmed Breik who dazzled football lovers in the late 1960s and later 1970s is dead. He passed on Monday morning in Majengo, Mombasa after an illness, his family announced.
At his prime he turned out for defunct club Feisal FC and the national football team, Harambee Stars.
The sad news was broken by his third born son, Ali ‘Katolila’ Ahmed Breik.
“He was not only a father to us as a family but also a dear friend. We will miss his fatherly advice on life and staying religious,” said Ali, who himself played for Mombasa Stars, Mombasa Wanderers, Bandari FC and the national team Harambee Stars.

The late Ahmed earned over 36 caps between 1964–1970 scoring 7 goals.
He also won the Kenya Premier League title in 1965 with Feisal and it remains the only league title to be won by a Coast-based club, to date.
Ahmed also won the Gosage Cup playing for Harambee Stars back in 1972 – in a team that had notable players like the late Ali Kajo , Ali Sungura , Kadir Farah and goalkeeper Mahmoud Mohamed.
Later Ahmed joined Mombasa Combined before hanging his boots in early 1970s.
The body of the late was taken to Masjid Marembo for funeral prayers ‘Asr’ before being interred at Kikowani Muslim cemetery in Mombasa.
