Uhuru Holds Meeting With Chinese Ambassador Days After Meeting US, UK Envoys
There has been increasing speculation about the frequent and significant meetings that former President Uhuru Kenyatta has had with ambassadors from three powerful global nations within a short span of time.
In his most recent version, the previous leader met with the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Zhou Pingjian on Monday.
In a communication from his office, Uhuru mentioned that Pingjian visited him as a gesture of politeness at his Nairobi office, and their conversation mainly revolved around the decade he led in charge.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta conveyed his congratulatory message to the Chinese envoy ahead of the 60th Anniversary Celebrations to mark the Kenya-China relations,” read the statement in part.
“Kenyatta acknowledged the great partnership between the two nations and how it shaped the development agenda during his tenure.”
Pingjian, conversely, restated that the connection between the two nations nurtured robust bonds in economics, politics, and culture.

The gathering occurred in anticipation of the upcoming 60th-anniversary celebration between Kenya and China, scheduled for this Thursday at the Global Trade Centre (GTC) Office Tower in Westlands.
Three days prior, the ex-leader also welcomed US Ambassador Meg Whitman, accompanied by former Foreign Affairs PS Macharia Kamau and former State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena.
Two days prior, Uhuru had similarly welcomed Neil Wigan, the British High Commissioner to Kenya, to his office for a meeting.
During the weekend, Azimio leaders interpreted his gatherings suspiciously, accusing him of associating with leaders who were purportedly supportive of President William Ruto.
“Why is (former) President Uhuru Kenyatta meeting individuals who rigged our 2022 presidential elections,” Kaluma wondered.
“Keep off US ambassador Meg Whitman and her associates from the West.”
