Cab Driver Shaves Dreadlocks to Evade Arrest Days After Assaulting Female Passenger

A cab driver was arrested on Sunday and detained at the Njathiini Police Station in Kiambu County days after he allegedly assaulted a female passenger along Ruaka Bypass.

According to reports, the suspect shaved off his dreadlocks to disguise his identity. However, the victim positively identified him after being hunted down by police officers.

It was reported that the lady boarded the vehicle by mistake after requesting a taxi online leaving her friends behind.

After a while, the driver went rogue and dragged the passenger to a nearby bush, sexually assaulted her, and stole some of her belongings.

The man then sped off to avoid being seen, however, a witness saw the vehicle fleeing and captured the vehicle’s number plate.

The eyewitness also recorded a statement at the police station as investigations into the matter commenced.

Reportedly some needles and drugs were found inside the vehicle. The police suspect the drugs were used to stupify the victim.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of passengers in taxis, a trend that has caused great concern among commuters.

This is not the first misconduct case to be filed against a cab driver.

In October, a taxi company suspended one of its drivers for indecent behavior.

Kenyans have called for stricter regulation in the sector.

A section of Kenyans castigated the suspect for taking advantage of the passenger. They called for the suspect’s prosecution.

On the other hand, others argued that the man could be innocent, calling for all sides of the story to be heard and investigations to be done

They referred to the Constitution, particularly the provision that guarantees the innocence of a suspect until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
