Kenya Power Explains Cause of Nationwide Blackout

Kenya Power has released a statement clarifying that the countrywide electricity outage, which disrupted businesses, was due to a malfunctioning system.

The notification, dispatched approximately half an hour following the nationwide power loss report, also mentioned the efforts of the utility company to return things to their usual state.

“We have lost electricity supply to various parts of the country due to a suspected fault affecting the power system,” read the statement in part.

“We are working to restore normalcy within the shortest time possible. An update on the restoration progress will be issued in due course.”

Kenya Power, known as KPLC on the Nairobi Stock Exchange, consequently offered an apology to its customer base.

The most recent power failure represented the third extensive blackout in the nation this year by itself, leading to public criticism regarding the utility company’s management of this recurring issue.

Kenyans demanded accountability from Energy CS Davis Chirchir and Kenya Power CEO Joseph Siror regarding the increasing occurrences of nationwide power outages.

”The frequent power outages in this country is a typical sign of underground nocturnal cabal activities. It is not a usual occurrence, neither is it by accident but by design. I dare say it is time for Davis Chirchir to leave Nairobi and retire in Kericho County,” lamented Saboti MP Caleb Amisi.

The disruption also impacted Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), marking its third outage since August of this year.

An insider who is knowledgeable about the situation disclosed to Kenyans.co.ke that the brief 15-minute power outage only impacted two terminals.

“It is a national blackout but did not affect the entire airport. It only affected Terminal 1A and Terminal 1E,” the source explained.

“That was sorted and the power was restored. The other parts of the airport were not affected. The power was out for about 15 minutes.”

The Ministry of Energy has yet to state the matter.
