President Ruto Fires Back At Raila On Exportation Of Kenyan Labour

President William Ruto has replied to Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja one Kenya Coalition, following Odinga’s recent statement urging the Kenya Kwanza government to prioritize job creation within the country instead of seeking opportunities abroad.

President Ruto discussed the matter at a Church Service in Kimende, Kiambu County, on Sunday, reiterating his dedication to providing employment opportunities for the youth of Kenya outside the nation’s boundaries.

โ€œI saw the opposition leader (Raila Odinga) complaining saying that many people are being taken abroad for jobs. What did he want them to do if they remained in Kenya? More is yet to come; he has started complaining very early. People will leave Kenya for employment abroad in the thousands,โ€ President Ruto said.

The leader announced a forthcoming arrangement with Israel to dispatch Kenyan workers to the country.

He encouraged Odinga to avoid making premature complaints, stating that numerous others would continue to pursue job opportunities overseas.

โ€œI want to ask, when one goes to Israel and gets a salary of Ksh.100, 000, is there a problem there? Some people do not understand how things are going on. I want to tell the leader of the opposition (Raila Odinga) to stop complaining this early on; many people will still go abroad for jobs,โ€ he added.

Odinga, in his criticism on December 8, pointed out that Ruto’s administration lacked effective strategies to ensure the creation of employment opportunities for Kenyans within the country.

He contended that the government’s emphasis on creating employment opportunities overseas contradicted its neglect of fostering improved prospects within the nation.

โ€œYoung people with the new skills and knowledge that we need are being exported because the government cannot create jobs. And the government sees it as an achievement,โ€ Odinga said.

This follows the Ministry of Labor’s announcement through Principal Secretary Shadrack Mwadime on December 6, that Kenya would export approximately 1,500 Kenyans as casual workers to labor in Israel’s agricultural fields on a three-year contract.
