Man City Facing Premier League Ban or Points Deduction

MANCHESTER CITY may be EXPELLED FROM THE PREMIER LEAGUE after being charged with more than 100 alleged financial rule violations.

Other possible sanctions include a points deduction for the reigning champions, transfer bans, spending caps, and even the revocation of previous titles – although this is an unprecedented situation.

The club’s dealings have been the subject of a four-year investigation.

And now the Premier League has released their findings, which do not bode well for the Etihad club.

The charges stem from nine seasons of rule violations between 2009 and 2018, with the investigation beginning in December 2018.

The investigation was prompted by the publication of leaked documents by the German website Der Spiegel, with the investigation focusing on three specific areas.

The first alleged issue is “under-age players were pressured to sign contracts with City through monetary payments”.

Second, Abu Dhabi sponsors “provided only a portion of their payments to the club,” with owner Sheikh Mansour covering the rest, inflating sponsorship revenue.

Finally, former club president Roberto Mancini received a “significant portion” of compensation from a “fictitious consultancy contract” when he left the club in 2013.

For alleged financial fair play violations, Uefa imposed a two-year ban and a ยฃ25 million fine on City.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned that decision in 2020, and the final fine was reduced to ยฃ9 million.

The investigation’s findings, as well as multiple alleged violations, have now been referred to a commission.

The Premier League also claims that City did not follow Uefa regulations regarding club licensing and financial fair play in 2013-14, as well as between 2014-15 and 2017-18.

Another violation occurred in 2015-16, 2016-17, and 2017-18 about Prem profit and sustainability rules.

The Premier League also charged City with failing to cooperate with the investigation.
