Gachagua Exposes Ruto’s Decision to Restrict CSs Murkomen and Malonza From More Tasks

On Monday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua disclosed that President William Ruto prohibited two Cabinet Secretaries from taking on additional responsibilities and instructed them to focus solely on addressing the El Nino disaster.

While addressing the residents of Garissa County during the dispersal of aid supplies, Gachagua mentioned that Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, along with his colleague Peninah Malonza, responsible for EAC, ASALs, and Regional Development, had received instructions to cease their other duties and concentrate on supporting the areas impacted by the heavy rainfall.

As per the deputy leader, Murkomen was given a specific responsibility to supervise the repair of flood-damaged roads nationwide. This instruction followed complaints from Kenyans about inadequately constructed roads affected by intense rainfall.

“Kipchumba Murkomen received an order from President William Ruto to stop all other projects until he repairs roads affected by the rainfall across the country and that is what is he doing now,” Gachagua told the congregation.

At the same time, Malonza will oversee the allocation of aid supplies across all impacted areas, including Garissa. The Deputy President highlighted the commitment of the national government to prevent further loss of lives among Kenyans caused by the intense rainfall.

“CS Penina Malonza is under instructions from the President to leave behind her current tasks. For now, her role is to buy food and ensure it is distributed across the country and no one loses their life due to hunger,” he stated.

Additional government actions in response to the impact of intense rainfall involve using helicopters to assist in delivering food to regions made inaccessible by the floods.

Gachagua additionally requested that other counties pause their development initiatives until the rainfall decreases in the initial months of 2024.

CS Murkomen, who attended the food distribution event, revealed intentions to fix the road that has been affected between Nairobi and Garissa.

Murkomen disclosed that, in collaboration with the Kenya National and Highway Authority (KeNHA) and various government bodies, the ministry was actively seeking lasting solutions to repair the road infrastructure and bridges nationwide.

He mentioned that a sum of Ksh100 billion had been allocated for road repairs over the upcoming three years. The funding originated from various international investors, such as the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) and the World Bank.

Malonza outlined the steps her ministry was implementing to reach the president’s objective. She requested collaboration from the counties to ensure that all affected Kenyans receive the necessary assistance.
