ICC Terminates Case Against President William Ruto
On Monday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) declared that it is nearing the conclusion of its investigations into six suspects who are charged with committing crimes against humanity after the 2007 presidential elections.
At the time, President William Ruto was one of six individuals suspected of orchestrating political violence in response to the disputed presidential election results.
Deputy prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Nazhat Shameem Khan explained in a statement to PoliticalPulseChat that she concluded after evaluating the information at her disposal.
”After assessing all the information available to me at this time, I have decided to conclude the investigation phase in the Situation in Kenya. I have reached this decision after considering the specific facts and circumstances of this Situation,” the statement read in part.
Francis Muthaura, William Ruto, Uhuru Kenyatta, Joshua Arap Sang, Henry Kosgey, and Mohammed Hussein Ali were among the six individuals who faced charges.
Throughout the specified time frame, the prosecution has dismissed all cases against the defendants, citing insufficient evidence and witness interference.
The court in The Hague subsequently declared that it had initiated inquiries to investigate the improper activities that precipitated the disruption of the initial cases.

It disclosed the identities of three individuals it suspected of being involved in witness interference.
The court became aware of three individuals who were sought, one of whom was former Ruto attorney Paul Gicheru, upon concluding that they had violated Article 70 of the Rome Statute.
The new investigations were complicated by the unsolved demise of attorney Paul Gicheru, who had previously appeared in court; however, the court maintains that the two individuals who are still evading capture have a legal obligation to address.
Two wanted individuals, including Philip Koech and Walter Barasa, who are accused of foul conduct, will continue to have their cases heard by the court, according to the ICC.
”The Office maintains its capacity to act on information relating to retaliation against witnesses. In this regard, the cases against Mr. Barasa and Mr. Bett for offenses against the administration of justice remain before the Court,” the Prosecutor stated.
