Raila Renews Attacks On Ruto As Rift Over Multibillion Deal Widens

On Monday, former prime minister Raila Odinga criticized the allies of President William Ruto, particularly those within his inner circle, accusing them of providing inaccurate information to the Head of State on a range of matters, including the Ksh Ksh17 billion oil scandal.

Raila dismissed claims that the current administration is in control of matters while speaking in Nyamira County at an engagement forum for ODM leaders and stakeholders. He claimed that systems have been malfunctioning ever since the Kenya Kwanza government assumed power.

Raila expressed skepticism regarding the government’s eagerness to implement new tariffs in his speech, arguing that such policies will not serve their intended purpose and will not benefit the nation.

“We have gone back to where we were. This person (Ruto) has no idea what he is doing, he is told to increase taxes and he does, but the pot is leaking,” he remarked.

Raila further contended that the election postponement to 2024 by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the party led by President William Ruto, was the result of an internal dispute.

“When they heard that we will do our elections in April, they rushed to declare theirs in December. Now they have internal wrangles and have postponed the elections to next year like us,” he stated.

In addition, the former prime minister commented on the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results that were just released, claiming that the government’s incompetence was evidenced by the inaccurate results.

“Our children will have even more problems now. How can students in one class get the same grade in a subject?” Raila questioned.

Additionally, the leader of the opposition asserted that Ruto has presided over the decline of the government and its institutions since assuming power in 2022.

Railroad President Ruto will accomplish nothing, in Raila’s opinion, even if he remains in power for another century.

In the run-up to the 2027 elections, Raila galvanized support for his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, a departure from his rivalry with President Ruto.

“We want our party to be as strong as it was before,” he commented.
