CS Murkomen clarifies ‘Ruto must go’ chants in Baringo (Video)

CS Kipchumba Murkomen of Roads Transport was subjected to hecklers on Sunday during the Governor’s Cup finals in Baringo County.

Videos captured the disgruntled residents yelling “Ruto must leave” during CS Murkomen’s speech, as reported by the outlet.

The Cabinet Secretary clarified in a statement that the chants were directed at a local Federation of Football Kenya official named Kenneth Ruto and not at President William Ruto.

During the men’s finals, which were ultimately canceled as a result of demonstrations led by Baringo Youth FC from Kabarnet, Baringo Central, the incident transpired.

The team challenged their defeat to Chemogoch FC from Mogotio, which led to an escalation of tensions. The Baringo Central team and their supporters expressed their ire at how the situation was managed, with particular criticism directed at the FKF official.

In a statement, CS Murkomen, who was in attendance to show his support for Governor Cheboi and the Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen Peace Cup, provided clarification on the subject.

As per his account, the dissatisfied inhabitants were venting their ire at Mr. Ruto, whom they held responsible for failing to sufficiently attend to their grievances.

“Being the home team, and with their fans being more than half of the stadium, it was impossible to proceed with the match.

“The players and the fans poured their frustrations on FKF officials, especially one Mr. Ruto, whom they felt was not addressing their concerns,” explained Murkomen.

The rumpus ensued as a result of the surname being shared with President William Ruto, which caused certain individuals to suspect that the chants were political.

Murkomen emphasized, nevertheless, that the citizens were preoccupied with matters about the football game and were not expressing dissent towards the president from a political standpoint.

The CS conveyed its approval of the volunteers’ endeavors in ensuring the success of the OKM Peace Cup and encouraged local leaders and Governor Cheboi to expeditiously resolve the issue.

Notwithstanding the incident, Murkomen emphasized the constructive capacity of sports, specifically football, to promote harmony.

“Sports can be emotive, but football is a beautiful and popular game that can be used to foster peace,” Murkomen remarked.

To conclude on a lighter note, he acknowledged a friend’s comical advice to remain focused on athletics.

Instead of Baringo County’s Governor’s Cup finals, which were marred by disorder, the OKM Peach Cup finals, where winners will be crowned, have been rescheduled to Kapenguria. Supporters anticipate a more harmonious and efficiently managed occasion.
