Ichung’wah Responds to Wamalwa Over Bipartisan Talks Final Report Stalemate

Former Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa was criticized by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah on Sunday for refusing to affix his signature to the National Dialogue Committee’s final report, which contains recommendations designed to assist Kenya in resolving its current political impasse.

Ichungโ€™wah stated in a statement that Wamalwa was being dishonest with Kenyans regarding the motives behind his refusal to sign the report compiled by Raila and Ruto camp representatives.

The Kikuyu representative asserted that Eugene had departed from a NADCO meeting on Friday before the conclusion of the months-long dialogue, citing a matter in Kinshasa on which the former CS was obligated to attend.

“He left his blessings to the rest of their team (Azimio) saying he would sign when back,” Ichung’wah stated.

The majority leader of the National Assembly, who along with Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka had co-chaired the committee, asserted that Wamalwa was a member of a group that had been undermining the procedure.

Throughout the process, he asserted, some factions were opposed to the negotiations reaching an amicable conclusion.

“They are at pains now that the process never collapsed as they pushed,” Ichung’wah added.

This occurred after Wamalwa’s earlier statement of dissatisfaction with the team’s approach to the cost of living matter earlier in the day.

Wamalwa added that he would not accept allowances because, in his opinion, the Kenyan people had been cheated out of the process.
