Fiery Exchange: Kiengei of Kameme FM Clashes with MP Ichung’wah
Kameme FM host Muthee Kiengei and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah have engaged in a dispute over Kiengei’s persistent criticism of the radio station.
Kiengei asserted on Live Air that Ichung’wah allegedly referred to him and his colleague Gatonye Mbugua as “eighth-grade dropouts” who were not qualified to discuss the debt situation in Kenya while addressing the Kikuyu member of parliament.
According to an audio excerpt played by the radio host, Ichung’wah alleged that they provided false information to the public regarding the Ksh4.5 trillion in revenue acquired by the Kenya Kwanza administration during the current fiscal year.
It was also claimed that Ichung’wah ridiculed the presenters for their lack of fundamental math skills. According to the audio, the government is unable to borrow an amount over the existing Ksh3.6 trillion budget.
Ichung’wah established a connection between the station and the family of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“This Kamehemehe FM, a presenter who is from my constituency and is illiterate, a class eight dropout who knows nothing about Finance. The presenter was misinforming the country that Kenya has borrowed to the tune of Ksh4.5 trillion in this financial year,” the audio alleged to have captured Ichung’wah’s voice claimed.
“You would understand why a presenter, based on the ownership of Kameme FM, would be intent on deliberately misinforming the country on the level of debt.”
In his reply, Kiengei raised concerns regarding the treatment of the ‘hustlers’ by the present administration, whom they had pledged to improve their circumstances in their manifesto.

“I will not be afraid to say that we see how you have treated the hustlers in the country. That we should not talk about matters of the economy. So people who have dropped out of class 8 is who you are targetting?” he posed.
“Who are the people who voted for you? Aren’t they the hustlers? If your votes are divided and unlearned people are removed, what would you be left with? If a class 8 dropout came and talked to you, wouldn’t you listen to his plea? Or do you prefer your learned class?”
Kiengei, in response to the loan claims, further stated that their statements were predicated on the sum that the World Bank and other financial institutions had guaranteed the Kenya Kwanza government.
“You tell us that we lied, but let me educate you as a class 8 dropout, even if you take a loan right now and plan to take another one next week, a loan is still a loan. Since you are more learned than us, tell us if we are wrong,” he noted
He further stated that the Kenya Kwanza government ought to prioritize its duty of stimulating the economy and reducing the cost of living, rather than engaging in unproductive sideshows.
“Do you need a degree or a Ph.D. to know that the country’s economy is not right, floods are causing mayhem and the cost of living is high?”
“I wish you could go to Parliament and tell us about the hawker whose groundnuts were spilled by Kanjos, or others who were also harassed while doing business. Why not talk about those being evicted from their homes in different places across the country?” he wondered.
