Muthama Calls Out Murkomen for Excluding Nyanza From Road Upgrades
Johnson Muthama, a member of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC), has voiced apprehensions regarding the Kenya Rural Roads Authority’s (KeRRA) omission of opposition-heavy zones from a multi-billion tender notice.
The former chairman of the UDA urged Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to review the tender notice, which he claimed was discriminatory against certain regions of the country, in a statement dated Saturday.
It was unnecessary, in his opinion, to exclude any region of the nation from the mega road initiatives.
Siaya and Mombasa counties were not awarded any projects in the October-advertised tender; instead, Kisumu and Migori counties were awarded a single project each.
The KeRRA initiative is designed to construct drainage systems and improve a variety of roads.
Mount Kenya and the Rift Valley region received 51 of the 77 road and bridge projects allocated to them; Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, and Nyeri were among the largest beneficiaries.

“In our Kenya Kwanza campaign, we championed equity and fairness, a departure from the previous Jubilee administration. It’s disheartening to observe a deviation from these principles among some government officials.
“The recent Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) tender notice for various roads nationwide fails to align with the ideals of our administration,” read the statement in part.
However, he pointed out that certain municipalities’ exclusion was unjustifiable, particularly in light of the current weather conditions.
“Is it indicative of a lack of roads requiring improvement or drainage structures needing attention?
“I call on CS Murkomen to reconsider the KeRRA list, ensuring a fair reallocation that genuinely mirrors our commitment to serving every corner of the country equally, as President William Ruto pledged,” he added.
In addition to Muthama, other authorities, including Wajir Deputy Governor Ahmed Muhumed, have expressed apprehension regarding the progress of the project.
I am awaiting responses from Murkomen and the road agency regarding this matter.
