KNEC Admits Errors in 2023 KCPE Results 1 Day After Release

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has admitted releasing some results with errors after a section of candidates raised the alarm over inconsistencies witnessed on their slips.

KNEC, however, stated that it would address the matter and moved to reassure the students that the errors would be rectified.

Some students indicated missing marks for some subjects, while others recorded results in exams they never sat.

A sample case showed the results of one candidate who scored English 84A, Kiswahili 29D, Kenya Sign Language, Mathematics 88A, Science 76A, and Social Studies and Religious Education 84A, scoring a total of 361 marks.

The candidate has raised the alarm over his Kiswahili paper marks, alleging that only his Insha paper results were recorded.

Another candidate did not receive results for one paper, according to a slip shared with a local media house.

The student scored English 72B, Kiswahili, Kenya Sign Language 81A, Mathematics 84A, Science 76A, and Social Studies and Religious Education 80A scoring a total of 393 marks.

However, he received results for the Kenya Sign Language Exams, which he never took, and missed out on results for his Kiswahili paper.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu released the result on Thursday, November 23, with the top candidate scoring 428 marks.

Over 1.4 million students sat for the national examinations that began on November 30. However, over 9,000 students were said to have failed to sit the examination for various reasons that were yet to be disclosed.

The Ministry will organize special exams for students who missed the national examinations this year. The exams, according to Machogu, were scheduled for January 2024.
