ODM Diehard’s Mystery: Unraveling the Enigma Surrounding Nuru Okanga’s KCPE Exam Results at Muslim Primary School

Teachers at Muslim Primary School in Mumias, Kakamega, cannot account for ODM diehard Nuru Okangaโ€™s 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results yet.

A teacher at the school who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke on condition of anonymity stated that they had yet to receive Okangaโ€™s exam results despite reports claiming that he scored 401 marks.

Okanga, who sat the exam as a special student, confirmed to PoliticalPulseChat on Thursday that the exam results were not his, nor were the 401 marks being paraded online.

However, hours later, while appearing on NTV, hosted by Swahili journalist Fridah Mwaka, Okanga played coy with the results, neither confirming nor denying. Nonetheless, he alluded to scoring the 401 marks with witty statements synonymous with politicians.

โ€œYou, the media, and people put my results online. You never asked me what I got!โ€ Okanga replied to Mwakaโ€™s insistent questioning of his results.

Speaking to PoliticalPulseChat, the Muslim Primary School alias Muslim DEB teacher shared what they argued was Okangaโ€™s result as leaked from the County exams office.

The result was similar to that being shared online, claiming Okanga scored 401.

According to the slip, the index cited started with code 3761*55, claiming that one Nuru Maloba Okanga was index 55 at the school.

    Was the Result Generated?

Ironically, the arrangement of the result per subject was contrary to that of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

The result with 401 marks started with Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Science and Social Studies, and Religious Education.

KNEC arranges its results starting with English (ENG), Kiswahili (KIS), Mathematics (MAT), Science (SCI), and Social Studies and Religious Education (SSR)

On the viral 401 marks result slip, Mathematics was abbreviated as MATHS rather than MAT, Kiswahili was abbreviated as KISW rather than KIS, Science as SCIE rather than SCI, and Social Studies and Religious Education as S/CRE rather than SSR.

โ€œThis is the result the county exam office says they received and was brought before all other exams. Brought as a special exam.

โ€œNow, I donโ€™t understand how the results start with Mathematics rather than English,โ€ stated the teacher who requested the name to be hidden.

    Okanga Shares Different Index Number

The index number shared online with 401 marks, starting with Mathematics, and that shared by the teacher were similar.

However, Okanga twice shared a different index number from the one with 401 marks, despite playing cagey with the marks, sometimes claiming to have scored the results.

Speaking with PoliticalPulseChat, the ODM fan claimed his index number was 3796*22.

This raises the question of why he would appear on NTV, claiming that his results may be the 401 mark shared online.

However, upon requesting KNEC to send the results via SMS (40054), it was determined that the codes were nonexistent.

Dear Customer, no results were found for index number 3761*55 or it does not exist. Kindly confirm the Index number. KNEC Helpline 0800724900.

Dear Customer, no results were found for index number 3796*22 or it does not exist. Kindly confirm the Index number. KNEC Helpline 0800724900.

    KNEC responded to both requests.

    Muslim Primary Code

According to the results of a student at the school, the code slightly differed from that of the 401 mark shared online, claiming to be Okangaโ€™s.

Both started with the number 3761. However, a Teachers Service Commission (TSC) official who spoke with PoliticalPulseChat confirmed that codes for registered students differ from those for special ones.

โ€œHe is a special candidate whose results are not released with others. His index is also special. Only he (Nuru) and exam officials are privy to his results.

โ€œThe only way to ascertain his results is by cross-checking the hard copy that the school will publish. However, this can take up to three days, and the results will be at the school by Monday,โ€ the TSC official who spoke on condition of anonymity stated.

A journalist who also visited the school confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that Muslim Primary did not have Nuruโ€™s results, and a physical copy was yet to be published.

Okanga, when asked to clarify the confusion created by his exam results, told PoliticalPulseChat, โ€œI am heading somewhere. Call me back in 10 minutes,โ€ before blocking the line.

    Person of Interest

Okanga is in the spotlight owing to his interest in politics, as the ODM diehard is eying a seat in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking to NTV, Okanga stated that his sponsor, Roots Party President George Wajackoyah, asked him to return to school and acquire an education to boost his candidacy in 2027.

โ€œMy father passed away when I was young, and my mother could not pay my school fees. We are many siblings, and she debated whether to provide us with food or pay my fees.โ€ He stated, adding that Wajackoyah paid a private tutor who ensured he was up to date with the subjects before seating the exam.

Okanga added that he resorted to taking photos with the students at Muslim Primary to prove later that he sat the exam. He argued that in previous elections, some politicians were tasked with proving their educational credentials.

โ€œWhen I did KCPE, I wanted it to be made public so that when it comes to the 2027 elections, no one will accuse me of failing to complete my education.โ€

โ€œYou cannot take photos with students at a center guarded by police and where the government is managing a national exam if you are not registered,โ€ Okanga stated, adding that he would like to join Alliance High School.

Muslim Primary School principal could not be accessed to comment on the story. Okangaโ€™s authentic results are also yet to be ascertained.
