Waiguru Lands International Role
Tuesday marked the election of Anne Waiguru, the governor of Kirinyaga, to the Executive Bureau of the United Regions Organisation (ORU).
ORU is an international organization comprised of national administrations from Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Latin America.
The objective of the international organization is to influence policy on all four continents with which it is affiliated.
This is accomplished using regional administrations that are well-informed, robust, legally backed, and adequately funded to carry out their duties.
Furthermore, the organization endeavors to represent the interests of intermediate governments before national governments and all international organizations in the Parliaments.
“I look forward to learning and advocating for last mile service delivery as is aligned with our own Bottom Up Economic Model in the global context,” Waiguru noted in her acceptance speech.

Waiguru assumed the position of Chair of the Council of Governors in Kenya upon her appointment.
She will have the responsibility of leading the effort to encourage regional governments to participate in the development and oversight of policies concerning social infrastructure, health, and education.
In addition, the head of the CoG will participate in the panel that will deliberate on the location and agenda of the ORU 2023 General Assembly.
Morocco has been the sole African nation to host the General Assembly since 2009; the final one will be held in Chile in October 2022.
Waiguru has become one of eleven influential world leaders who are now members of the Executive Bureau.
Additional African continent representatives on the Bureau comprise Salah Elaaboudi (Morocco), Ahmed Benjeloune (Senegal), and Eugene Aouele (Ivory Coast).
