My Mission Is Not To Be Re-Elected – President Ruto

President William Ruto has expressed his intention to bring about a lasting change in Kenya rather than seek re-election in the 2027 General Elections.

Ruto stated on Sunday, while attending a church service in Sotik, Bomet County, that his primary concern for the future of the nation is to restructure the approach to service delivery that has evolved over the past several decades.

The Head of State proceeded to reprimand leaders whose primary objective is perpetually to ensure their electoral victories, disregarding the detrimental impact on regional development.

“I am not planning on being re-elected I am planning on how we will transform Kenya. That is my mission. Being elected again is by God’s plan and the will of Kenyans. My work is not planning on how I will be re-elected my work is changing Kenya,” he said.

“We cannot continue to focus on the next election. We must begin to focus on the next generation.”

Ruto stated, in addition to promoting an environment favorable to a stronger economy, that he is attempting to alleviate Kenya’s colossal debt burden and achieve his lofty goal of transforming the country’s economy.

“As I speak about 8 countries in Africa have been plunged into insolvency and I want to tell you that I will not be a president to take you to such a place,” noted Ruto.

Additionally, he asserted that Kenya will receive a large sum of financial assistance from “friends and investors” who, according to him, have become optimistic about the nation’s promising economic climate.

A few days before this, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) granted Kenya Ksh.103 billion ($682 million), which amounted to an additional $938 million for the current lending program.

Kenya is currently confronted with significant liquidity challenges stemming from a lack of certainty regarding its capacity to obtain funding from financial markets before the June 2024 maturity of a Ksh.303 billion ($2B) Eurobond.
