DCI & KRA Officials Raid Gated Estate, Seize Counterfeit Alcohol & Stamps
To apprehend tax evaders, an investigation was conducted by detectives from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at an estate located off Thika Road.
A Chai Estates tenant along Kenyatta Road was suspected by the police of manufacturing counterfeit products and hoarding counterfeit KRA stamps.
The Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit of the DCI seized 2,500 counterfeit alcoholic beverages intended for local markets during the Saturday morning investigation.
Additionally, seized were more than 24,000 counterfeit KRA stamps and 40 liters of ethanol.
“A consignment of counterfeit alcoholic drinks has been impounded by detectives following an ongoing operation on high-level tax evasion schemes by traders dealing in alcoholic products.
“The counterfeited drinks whose safety to consumers could not be immediately ascertained were packaged in branded bottles that are popular among local joints,” DCI stated.

However, the detectives refrained from specifying whether they apprehended the primary suspects or initiated a pursuit for them.
“A seizure notice was issued, and the goods were impounded as detectives investigated the source of the ethanol and the fake KRA stamps,” DCI added.
The DCI conducted a residential property search at Kayole’s Sabian Estate before the operation, during which they seized illicit consignments valued at Ksh.4,978,400, which were intended to evade taxes.
Additionally, detectives seized over 2,000 empty bottles and 800 bottles of counterfeit intoxicating beverages from the estate on October 18.
The authorities recovered in Kahawa Sukari a total of 1,078 bottles of counterfeit alcoholic beverages, one roll of counterfeit KRA stamps, 630 liters of ethanol, 10,300 empty bottles, and four sacks of various bottle caps four days before the operation.
Concurrently with the operations, KRA and DCI are attempting to maximize tax collection to stimulate economic recovery.
