Putin Hints at Russian Nuclear Defense Against German Tanks
Russian President Vladimir Putin issued another veiled nuclear threat about the Ukraine war on Thursday, blasting Germany for supplying battle tanks to Kyiv and comparing Russia’s unprovoked invasion of its neighbor to the Soviet Union’s fight against the Nazis during World War II.
“Unfortunately, we see that the ideology of Nazism, in its modern form and manifestation, once again directly threatens the security of our country,” Putin said, according to Reuters, during a speech in Volgograd.
Volgograd, formerly known as Stalingrad after the Soviet dictator, was the site of the World War II battle that led to Nazi Germany’s defeat for 750,000 Soviet lives.

“We must repeatedly repel the collective Western aggression. It’s unbelievable, but it’s true: we are once again threatened by German Leopard tanks with crosses on them “Putin went on to say.
However, the Russian leader omitted some critical information. The Leopard tanks will be operated by Ukrainians, and Germany has joined the United States and the United Kingdom in offering battle tanks to assist Ukraine in regaining territory lost since Russia’s invasion nearly a year ago.
The United States and other Western powers have refused to provide Ukraine with longer-range missiles and fighter jets that it could use to strike inside Russia.
Putin stated that the battle of Stalingrad demonstrated “the indestructible nature of our people,” adding that those who entice European countries into a new war with Moscow and “expect to win a victory over Russia on the battlefield, apparently don’t understand that a modern war with Russia will be quite different for them.”
“We don’t send tanks to their borders, but we have the means to respond, and it won’t stop with armored vehicles, everyone must understand that,” Putin said, referring to Russia’s nuclear arsenal.

Since the start of the war, Russia’s leader has made numerous nuclear threats, and he has been condemned around the world as a result.
Even though Russia is now the aggressor, Russian lawmakers are reportedly being urged to draw parallels between Stalingrad — a battle against Nazi invaders — and the current conflict in Ukraine.
Putin has frequently invoked WWII, also known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia, to rally support as the country faces economic hardships and well over 100,000 casualties from Ukraine.
Putin has provided several justifications for the invasion, including the false claim that Ukraine is led by neo-Nazis.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is Jewish and lost family members in the Holocaust, but the Kremlin has continued to use Nazism to justify the ongoing war.
According to top Russian experts, Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine because he has been obsessed with subjugating it for years and wants to restore Moscow’s power and prestige from the Soviet era.
Putin, who has repeatedly claimed that Ukraine is not a real country, once called the Soviet Union’s demise “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe” of the twentieth century.
