Man Cleans Grandmother’s Apartment, Shot Dead by Police

According to family members, an Ohio man was fatally shot by police while cleaning out his deceased grandmother’s apartment.

On Monday, Joe Frasure Jr, 28, was shot.

    He passed away on Tuesday.

The shooting, the latest in a series of contentious police killings across the United States, occurred in Wyoming, Ohio, a town of about 9,000 people just north of Cincinnati.

The shooting was initially investigated by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office before being taken over by the county prosecutor, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

According to WLWT5, Frasure died as a result of a police-involved shooting, according to a county coroner’s report.

Officers suspected Frasure was a burglar, according to police. Frasure’s family claims he was simply cleaning out his grandmother’s apartment after her death.

According to police, a video of the encounter will be released on Friday. The officers involved in the incident have not been identified.

According to a press release, officers responded to a 911 call about a possible break-in involving two to three people, as reported by NBC News.

A neighbor called, claiming that the apartment should have been empty.

According to the Enquirer, the call was placed to a non-emergency line but was rerouted to general dispatch.

When officers arrived, they found Frasure and his father at the back of the building, according to police.

According to police, Frasure did not obey officers’ commands, instead fleeing in a minivan.

When the van “almost struck an officer,” police say shots were fired into it.

Frasure was shot in the head at least once. He was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and died there.

His family has demanded that a video of the encounter be released to refute the police account.

“I don’t care what they say: that [vehicle] wasn’t pointed at them,” Frasure’s father, Joe Frasure Sr, told WLWT5.

“We want answers from them,” Frasure’s mother, Lisa Fisher, said. “I want everything, including the bodycam.”

Frasure’s family held a small protest outside the Wyoming police department on Wednesday, demanding justice and the release of the video.

“I want to know why they killed my brother,” Joe Frasure Jr, Frasure Jr’s half-brother, said. “I’d like to see the video.” My brother was a father, a brother, a son, and a member of the family. A caring companion. Please assist me in obtaining justice for my brother. Assist me. Please assist me.”
