Panic, Laughter At President Ruto’s Near Fall As He Planted Trees

The National Tree Planting Day at the Kiu Wetland in Makueni County took an unexpected turn on Monday as President William Ruto found himself teetering on the edge of a fall while planting a tree.

The unforeseen incident which lasted a few seconds happened as the President stooped to cover the base of the freshly planted tree with soil.

The ground, softened by the recent rains, betrayed his step, causing one of his gumboot-clad feet to lose its footing, sliding into the muddy water-filled cavity where the tree had been placed.

As the President grappled to regain his balance, his aides who were a few steps away from him frantically and swiftly moved in to prevent the potential stumble.

Despite the tense moment, President Ruto managed to maintain his composure and made light of the situation before resuming the ceremonial tree planting.

In the video capturing the moment, the President can be heard telling his aides, who were holding him, “Wachana na mimi bwana”, triggering an outburst of laughter from his security and the onlookers.

The scene drew a mix of reactions from onlookers โ€” concern for the President’s safety and a hint of amusement at the brief precariousness of the moment.ย
