Kisii Exam Scandal: Azimio Senators Unleash Fury on CS Machogu
A faction of senators from Azimio criticized Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Saturday, asserting that the Kisii region has been unjustly singled out while the government continues to punish principals, teachers, and exam center managers convicted of aiding and abetting exam cheating.
Senators, speaking at the New Dawn SDA Church in the West Mugirango Constituency, cast doubt on the veracity of the recent arrests, arguing that it was improbable that the majority of instances of fraud would be uncovered in a single region.
The legislators, led by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, declared that allegations of academic dishonesty in the Kisii region were unfounded and had a detrimental impact on the students.
“Machogu hails from here and he understands us since he has been brought up in this region. We will be referred to as exam cheats until when?” Omogeni posed.
“He is the Education CS and we expect him to defend Gusii Community. We have done nothing wrong.”
Senator Stewart Madzayo of Kilifi and leader of the Senate minority stated that the allegations tarnished the region.

Madzayo explained that the government trivialized the fact that parents labored to transport their children to school and paid school fees.
“If students from Kisii have studied well, passed exams, and topped the country, please just allow them to celebrate their victory,” Kitui Senator Enock Wambua added.
Senator Eddy Oketch of Migori, contributing to the discourse, asserted that the administration led by President William Ruto was stifling the aspirations and sentiments of youthful learners hailing from the Kisii region.
For the ongoing KCSE examinations, the Kisii and Nyamira regions have been in the spotlight, as several instructors have been suspended in connection with exam irregularities.
The principal of Nyambaria High School was suspended on November 8 in connection with allegations of exam irregularities.
For attempting to cheat on exams, two additional principals from Nyamira County were suspended as exam center administrators.
